BC heavy truck gear due to structural type, material and heat treatment, operating environment and conditions and other factors are different, the form of failure is also different, common gear failure has the following types of forms.

1, BC heavy truck gear tooth surface wear

Insufficient lubricating oil or unclean oil will cause tooth surface wear, change the tooth profile, increase the backlash, and even cause tooth breakage due to excessive thinning of the gear. Under normal circumstances, only when there are abrasive particles in the lubricating oil, it will cause tooth surface wear during operation.

2, BC heavy truck gear tooth surface adhesive and abrasion

For the transmission of heavy duty and high-speed gear, the working temperature of the tooth surface is very high, once the lubrication conditions are not good, the oil film between the tooth surface will disappear, and the metal of one tooth surface will be fused and welded on the other tooth surface that is meshed with it, forming a scratch bond perpendicular to the pitch line on the tooth surface. When the new gear is put into use without running-in, this phenomenon often occurs in a certain part, and the gear is bruised.

3, BC heavy truck gear tooth surface contact fatigue

In the actual meshing process, the gear has both relative rolling and relative sliding, and the friction force of relative sliding is opposite on both sides of the node, resulting in pulsating load. The effect of load and pulse power makes the shear stress of fluctuating cyclic change in the depth of the gear surface layer, when the shear stress exceeds the fatigue limit of the gear material, the contact surface will produce fatigue cracks, and with the expansion of the cracks, the tooth surface will eventually spalling small pieces of metal, forming small pits on the tooth surface, which is called pitting. When the "pitting" expands into pieces, the metal pieces on the tooth surface peel off. In addition, uneven material or local abrasion, it is also easy to first appear contact fatigue on a tooth, resulting in spalling.

4, BC heavy truck gear bending fatigue and broken teeth

The gear teeth that bear the load during operation, like the cantilever beam, are greatly affected by the bending stress of the pulse cycle at the root. When the cyclic stress exceeds the fatigue limit of the gear material, cracks will occur at the root and gradually expand. When the remaining part cannot bear the transmission load, the broken teeth will occur. Gear may also cause broken teeth due to serious impact, partial load and uneven material. Tooth breakage and pitting are the main forms of gear failure.

Gear faults can also be divided into local faults and distributed faults. Local faults are concentrated on one or several teeth, while distributed faults are reflected on each tooth of the gear.
